Moto: “It’s okay, I can still have children”

Fabio Quartararo was the victim of a painful adventure. The accident occurred while he was getting back on the saddle after a crash at the last corner of the Angel Nieto circuit in Jerez de la Frontera during testing for the Spanish GP.

A fall at low speed, a rider who gets up immediately, while quickly lifts his bike. Here he is jumping in the saddle to return his freshly scratched car to its kickstand. We are in the middle of the first free practice session of the Spanish MotoGP GP and for the world champion Fabio Quartararo, as for everyone else, it is important to lose as little time as possible.

Surprised, however, barely leaving his bike in the hands of his technicians, who came to meet him, the Frenchman bends down, the pain can be read on his face and his gestures are clear: he suffers from a particularly delicate part of his male anatomy: “The five minutes after the crash were difficult; but now everything is fine, normally I can still have children ”.

In his media debrief, Quartararo chose humor. What really happened? “We have something new on the tank and when I got on the bike I hit that element. I feel a little silly, because nothing happened when I fell. I could have lied and told you I got hit by the rear wheel, but that’s not true. No, I was just stupid … ”

This stupidity did not prevent the reigning champion from setting the best time of the day, with a gap – 2 tenths – which is important in Jerez de la Frontera, when you know they are sixteen in less than a second.

Márquez, luxury tester

On Monday the MotoGP teams will remain in Jerez for a day of official testing. An important day for Honda and especially for Marc Márquez. Already on Thursday evening, the eight-time world champion recalled in his own words the current situation of the world leader: “Before talking about Monday I want to focus on the tests that, for me, begin on Friday morning with the first practice session of this GP! ”

“Unfortunately I crashed with the bike that gave me the best feeling and my spare car was set up in a completely different way”.

Marc Marquez

And that’s what happened: “We may have taken a significant risk in experiencing significant changes. As the track wasn’t in the best condition this morning, I tried to build a good pace and tried other things this afternoon. Unfortunately, I crashed with the bike that gave me the best feeling and my reserve car was set up completely differently, ”adds Márquez. “On Saturday we have to go back to GP mode, I absolutely have to get closer to the front lines and get back to what we know. We will resume the main research on Monday ”.

Aegerter, the marathoner

Swiss driver Dominique Aegerter.

Swiss driver Dominique Aegerter.

A week ago he won the two super sports world championship races in Assen in the north of the Netherlands. This weekend he finds himself in the extreme south of Spain, for the double opening of the FIM MotoE Cup (the Bernese obtained the fifth time in qualifying): Dominique Aegerter is more than ever the male motorcycling orchestra, a marathon runner than this year and as long as all the races of his two championships run normally, he will have taken 36 starts in world-class competitions!

In these conditions we already wish him a good weekend of rest, in a week’s time: “Then I’ll get back to my normal pace”, laughs Aegerter. Namely MotoE in France (14-15 May), supersport in Estoril, Portugal (21-22 May) and MotoE at Mugello (28-29 May).
