The first job is a decisive step in the career of a job seeker.
The lack of experience and the lack of knowledge of the world of work are sometimes obstacles in the search for the first job.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Africa is the only continent where the young workforce is growing rapidly. Between 1990 and 2020 it almost doubled. It went from 61.8 million to 115.8 million.
In this context of high demand for work, a diploma alone is not enough. You have to be well equipped to be able to convince recruiters.
We contacted Modou Mboup, Secretary General of the Senegal Business Movement.
Provides some tips that could help job seekers get their first job.
We share them below:
Good professional training
Job positions are scarce compared to job seekers. Competition is tough.
So, to stand out from the crowd, you must first have a good professional training.
This presents a know-how and a know-how.
The entrepreneur does not buy knowledge, he buys a know-how, a skill, a know-how.
Job seekers without qualifications have little chance of finding decent work.

The search for work as an occupation
Looking for a job should be an occupation for the unemployed.
You have to get up every day and find out about job offers, about the sectors they are hiring, but also about the national employment situation.
This allows you to know in which sector to apply and how to get there.
You have to go online and identify the companies that interest you and find out what they are doing.
Once you have identified the company that might hire you, the second thing to do is to write a job application with accompanying documents.
These are the CV and cover letter.

Knowing how to write a Curriculum Vitae (CV)
The CV is the first contact between the employer and the job seeker. It is written based on the recipient, it is not a question here of using a standard CV that will be sent with every application.
If you have a badly written, badly made CV or it doesn’t provide information about your abilities, we put it aside.
On the other hand, if you write a CV that makes the entrepreneur want to see you, to talk to you, this is already an advantage.
The Curriculum vitae must include a presentation part. That is your areas of expertise, such as the position or job you have already held.
For this you have to look for internships even if unpaid. While it is not easy to find an internship under our skies, you need to be stubborn and write an internship plan that you will present to recruiters. In general, you are likely to find an internship.
The CV must also include a section intended to list your skills. It is about saying the tasks that you actually did where you were. This is very important for the entrepreneur.
The CV must be well presented and avoid fantasies. For example, parts in red, parts in green, etc. You have to be simple with black ink on white paper with simple handwriting. If done right, the contractor may want to see you. This is when he calls you for the interview.
Know the facility you are applying to
When you arrive for an interview, there is a behavior you need to adopt. You have to be fair, don’t wear ripped jeans or sandals like I’ve seen.
You need to try to get to know the projects of the companies that interest you. Determine their strengths, what they have already done.

Be sure of yourself
Self-confidence is also very important.
You don’t come to beg for jobs, but to offer services, skills. Someone with a college degree doesn’t come asking for a job.
As an entrepreneur, I don’t need to feel sorry for anyone. I need to meet a young person who is competent, who believes in himself and who offers me his services.
There are young people who have self-confidence, who are not arrogant. They also keep themselves in a way that shows that what they are saying is in tune with their body language.
When you have a good CV, you now have confidence in yourself, you need to show that you have the will to be successful, to bring more and to have a career in the company.
