Newborn baby cries as soon as he’s in an old stroller until grandma finds a nappy hidden under her car seat: story of the day

Rachel had to take care of her grandson when her daughter died in childbirth. She one day she noticed that she was crying every time she was in the stroller. After investigating, she discovered a nappy hidden in the stroller with something shocking inside her, which prompted her to make a decision.

Rachel put her grandson, Matthew, in the stroller she bought him, and once again the baby started crying as if something was wrong. But the 78-year-old had no idea what was going on and was getting tired of the screams.

A few months ago, her daughter, Rosalie, died in childbirth. Like Rachel, Rosalie got pregnant at quite an advanced age and the elderly woman thought it would be okay because she was with her. But complications led to delicate surgery and Rosalie eventually lost her battle.

Rachel had to pay an excessive amount of medical bills after Rosalie’s death and she has almost nothing left to take care of the baby. The hospital offered to keep him and get him adopted, but she Rachel couldn’t do it. She couldn’t leave her niece at the mercy of others.

He used some money to buy an old stroller at a flea market and other essentials for the baby. The baby was supposed to sleep comfortably in the stroller, but he cried often. He slept alone in his bed, and Rachel was too old and too tired to continue like this.

She grabbed the baby once more and placed him on the sofa, wrapping him in pillows so he wouldn’t roll over. Fortunately, the child was also tired and fell asleep quickly.

“Something is wrong with this stroller,” Rachel thought to herself as she looked at her grandson.

She put her hands on her waist and walked over to the stroller. It was an old model – the kind used when Rosalie was a child – but it worked perfectly. It was solid and, after touching the inside, she noticed how hard it was. His hand may have been pressing too hard because something popped out unexpectedly.

It was a double bottom. There was a hidden compartment under the seat. Could it be for storing things? There is clearly something here, Rachel thought, using her hands to find a free spot and open it. “Oh my God,” she whispered aloud after opening the bottom flap. Inside were newspapers and what looked like a rigid box.

He pulled it out and opened it, discovering various jewels inside: necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. “Damn,” she whispered. It was her chance. She could sell those trinkets and maybe have enough money to raise Matthew. She needn’t have worried about money.

But it was wrong. These jewels were not of him. They belonged to the nice lady who had sold him that stroller at the flea market. She had to return them. So he put the stroller back as it was, except he added some blankets and a small pillow. Matthew was now calm, as the rigid box had been removed.

He pushes the stroller at the Brooklyn flea market and looks for the woman in question. “Miss! Miss!” she exclaims after finding him.

“Oh, ma’am! You are back and I see you are using the stroller. It belonged to my grandmother, and she always liked it very much. But now we have more modern ones,” said the woman.

“Actually, my nephew was crying all the time when he was inside, but that’s when I found out something. Here, this must be yours,” Rachel said pulling out the box and handing it to the woman.

His eyes go wide. “Oh! Oh! Lady! Thank you! Thank you! I don’t know what to say! These jewels belonged to my great-grandmother. Her husband gave them to her before he went to war. She hid them in her old age, and no one knew where to find them,” the woman said with gratitude.

“Well, I’m glad I got them back,” Rachel said, nodding. She is about to push the stroller to leave, but the woman stops her.

“Wait. I’m Marina. Let me pay you for this. Anyone else would have sold them for cash,” the woman offered, a hand on Rachel’s shoulder.

“No, no. It was the right thing to do.”

“Please. Even my brother, Ben, will be very grateful. Because we searched Great-grandmother’s house for hours and nothing. Please let us help you,” Marina insisted.

“Very well. Here is my address. If you ever have something to give I’ll take it, and you can come to my house for coffee and cookies. The company will do me good. What do you think?” Rachel replied with a smile, knowing that Marina would probably forget her, but she still wrote her address on a piece of paper.

“Sure!” Marina said enthusiastically.

Rachel walked away and completely forgot about it. Matthew slept peacefully in the stroller and things seemed to calm down. But a few days later, Marina shows up at her door, accompanied by Ben. He had unloaded some things from a van.

“What are you doing here?” Rachel asks, shocked.

“We’re here with some surprises. Ben’s son has outgrown some items and we think your grandson may need them,” Marina revealed with a big smile.

They brought a crib, a walker, toys and tons of clothes for Matthew. They also sat down for coffee, cookies and a chat. It’s the best day the old woman has ever had.

From then on, Marina came often, kept Matthew as soon as possible, and treated Rachel like her mother. From time to time Ben would come by to fix things at his house and play with Matthew when he was growing up.

They were so close that Ben offered to father the baby when Rachel got too sick, and the old woman couldn’t have been more grateful. She died four years later and Ben adored his new son.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Always do what is right. Rachel could have sold the jewelry and kept the money, but she did the right thing and got something better.
  • Help others whenever you can. Marina and Ben were not indebted to Rachel as the jewels belonged to them. But they still felt the need to help her and became like family.
