One year after her son’s death, a woman sees her daughter-in-law’s grave in the cemetery: story of the day

When her stepdaughter, Eve, became pregnant, Madeleine didn’t trust her. She thought the baby didn’t belong to her son, Elliot. Eventually, Elliot got into a fight with Eve and got into an accident while she was driving drunk. Madeleine no longer spoke to Eve, but a year later she saw her grave next to that of her son and she discovered the incredible truth about her.

Madeleine Brady walked through Glenwood Cemetery in search of her son’s grave. She knew exactly where she was but she had only been there twice since her death. She still had a hard time believing that Elliot was gone. She shakes her head at these thoughts, which have been tormenting her for a year already. Could I have done things differently? She wondered several times.

But the answer was hard to find. Elliot married a woman named Eve, despite Madeleine’s concerns. The young woman had no family and worked as a waitress. Meanwhile, Madeleine has always wanted something better for her son. But he was adamant and they got married.

Unfortunately, after nearly two years of trying to have a baby, they found that Elliot may not have children. Apparently his sperm wasn’t very mobile. Doctors suggested several treatments, but didn’t tell Madeleine about them. She was their private business.

Miraculously, Eve becomes pregnant a few months after their first visit to the fertility doctor and the young couple are blissfully happy. But Madeleine couldn’t believe it. “Elliot, she must have cheated on you! She is not your baby!” the older woman insists, prompting her son to take a paternity test.

“Mom, you don’t know. The treatments are great. He’s my son,” his son replied, sure of his words at the time.

“I hope you’re 100% sure before you find yourself raising another man’s baby!”

Over the next few months, Madeleine continued to pester Elliot about it. She won’t give up until Elliot takes the tests.

At first, Elliot was sure that his wife had never cheated on him, but his mother’s words constantly echoed in his head. When he asked Eva to take a paternity test, his wife was offended. “I can’t believe you! This is our miracle baby,” she told him, holding her stomach to protect him.

“If it were my baby, you would have no problem taking the test!” he responds when the idea of her cheating on him takes over his emotions. They screamed back and forth until Elliot gave up. He went to a friend’s house and got drunk. Unfortunately, he never returned home after a serious car accident.

Madeleine was inconsolable and stared at Eve throughout the funeral. Later that day, the pregnant woman tried to talk to him, but she told him to leave. Eve tried to reach out and was greeted with silence for the whole week. She eventually gave up and the old woman hasn’t heard from her since.

But Madeleine thought of Eve as she looked at her son’s grave. She sighed. “I could have helped her with that baby, even if it wasn’t Elliot’s,” the old woman mused silently, lamenting her lack of grandchildren now. But there was nothing she could do.

She placed a bouquet on the floor and looked around, noting a tombstone that wasn’t there the last time she’d visited it. Madeleine’s jaw dropped when she saw the name “Eve Brady”. It was her. It was her ex-daughter-in-law!

“What happened? What …?” she whispers as she approaches the tombstone. But there was only the name of Eve. “And the baby?”

He acted immediately, rushing out of the cemetery and getting into the car. In Eve’s old apartment, she ran into her landlord, who happened to be visiting her property that day. Unfortunately, the man gave Madeleine terrible news.

“Oh yeah. Eve was a nice tenant. She always paid on time. But she died in childbirth. It was horrible. I heard there was no one in the hospital for her, so I paid for her tombstone. Everyone should have a tombstone to be remembered for, you know? ” the man revealed, absently consulting his notebook. He was clearly busy and wanted to end this conversation.

“Do you know what happened to her baby?” Madeleine asked desperately.

“I think they were sent to BabyLove DC,” the man said. “I’m sorry. I have to go. Have a nice day, ma’am.”

“Wait up!” she called him, stopping him on his trail. “What do you mean ‘they’?”

“Oh, I heard Eve had twins.”

Madeleine was flabbergasted. She couldn’t believe it. “Two children. What if I’m wrong? They could be Elliot’s children!” She thought desperately. The old woman got back into action and got back in the car. She looked up Babylove DC’s address on her phone and started driving. The orphanage wasn’t far away, but Madeleine didn’t know if the children would still be there.

If Eve had died in childbirth, these babies must have been about seven or six months old. They have probably already been adopted.

She reached the location, walked into the building, and told an employee she was looking for her missing grandchildren. The young woman called the manager and Madeleine was escorted to the man’s office.

“Mrs. Brady, can you tell me more about your grandchildren?” asks the director.

The old woman broke up and told him everything that had happened a year ago. How she didn’t believe Eve was pregnant with his child’s baby, how he died in a car accident and how he avoided his stepdaughter. She wept in her hands and the manager offered her her handkerchief.

“And the mother was named Eve Brady, right?” controls the man, typing on his computer.

“Yes, she is my daughter-in-law.”

“Well, Mrs. Brady. She’s lucky. The kids are still here. There are some families interested in them, though. But if her story is true and she’s the biological grandmother of the kids, she takes priority over everyone else.” , said the manager, frowning.

“Isn’t that good news?” asks the old woman, wiping her tears and feeling hopeful for the first time today.

“It’s normal. But Mrs. Brady, the twins, is a lot of work. Are you sure you want them?” Asks the director seriously, crossing his hands on the desk.

Madeleine thought about it for a few seconds. You could have raised these children, but was it the right choice for them? “Anyway, I need to know if they are Elliot’s children. Can we do a DNA test?” the old woman prayed.

The manager nodded and stood up. He had no problems with this request and took Madeleine to meet the children. They’re adorable. She immediately fell in love with it. The orphanage then carried out a DNA test and, a few days later, the results confirmed that they were Madeleine’s grandchildren.

The director asks her again if she really wants to welcome them. “They could be adopted soon,” adds the man, nodding, prompting him to make the right decision.

But Madeleine couldn’t let them go. She didn’t know if they would have good families and she couldn’t leave their fate to chance. Also, there was a lot of guilt in her heart. If she hadn’t poisoned her son against his wife, they could still have lived happily ever after. It was her way of apologizing.

She took the kids home and hired a nanny to help her. The elderly woman also took precautions in case something happened to her, changing her will and determining who would take the children. Whatever happens, those children would be safe.

Fortunately, she lived several decades longer and her grandchildren, Eva and Elise, grew up to be beautiful people, just like their parents had been.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Don’t make hasty assumptions. Madeleine didn’t know exactly what fertility treatment Elliot had received, so she thought Eve had cheated on her. All ultimately paid a terrible price.
  • Atone for your mistakes. Madeleine did everything she could to redeem herself from her big mistake and guess. Fortunately, she found her grandchildren and was able to raise them.
