Education plays an essential role in helping to understand the various ecological issues and this, the association Bio Consom’acteurs has understood. It is to raise awareness among children on issues such as nutrition, health and environmental protection that the association Bio Consom’acteurs has created LUDOBIO. Through this box of games containing 5 activities, the goal is to approach the principles of organic farming in a fun way, evoking other issues related to biodiversity, animal husbandry conditions or food balance. Julie Potier, director of the association, tells us more about this educational project. Discovery!
Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Julie Potier, director of the Bio consom’acteurs association since 2017. When I joined the association, the stocks of the LUDOBIO game were exhausted (500 games were released in 2015). I therefore proposed to the board of directors to relaunch this tool, through a crowdfunding campaign. This allowed us to fund the game update and print 1,000 new boxes.
Since then we have built a real educational project and developed a sequence of interventions in primary schools to raise awareness among children aged 6 to 12. This sequence is called “From the field to the plate”, and was created as part of the project “Our canteens committed to the climate”.
Can you introduce us LUDOBIO?
The LUDOBIO game is an educational tool created in 2015 by the Bio consom’acteurs association. It was designed to meet the need to raise children’s awareness of sustainable and quality food.
This game concept, unique in France, was developed in collaboration with nutritionists, to sensitize young people to the principles of organic farming in a fun way, addressing biodiversity issues, conditions for organic animal husbandry and cross-cutting issues such as food balance, sensory awareness, taste awareness and recognition of food families.
This educational tool offers a fun solution to facilitators and teachers to allow them to talk about topics related to food and organic farming and related environmental / health issues.
Why did you decide to embark on this adventure?
When I joined the association, I saw that LUDOBIO could satisfy a need for tools to raise awareness among the youngest. To talk about food, facilitators and teachers often have to create their own activities or materials.
What message do you want to convey through LUDOBIO?
In collective catering, and particularly in school canteens, a transition to healthier food systems is underway. However, children are poorly aware upstream and often lack receptivity.
There is also a distrust of changes in the proposed diet and food waste that is still too high. This is why it seems necessary to combine this step with the application of an educational approach built around the LUDOBIO game, led by a trained speaker, in order to support and support the local dynamics already in place. Especially since educational staff often lack the knowledge or tools to talk about these topics.
Who are LUDOBIO games for?
We try to advertise LUDOBIO and, in particular, to present it as an educational tool for educational staff, which is sometimes difficult to reach in our networks.
This tool is sold online, in particular on the Dream Act and Kurioz platforms, or directly by contacting Bio consom’acteurs. We offer webinars “Discovering LUDOBIO” and we freely share the activities and materials created with the sequence “from the field to the plate”.
