News hardware VivaTech: will you be able to test the Facebook META?
The largest European fair on innovation and digital is back from 15 to 18 June. This year, the show went all on Web3. Among these new stands, that of META is a great success. In fact, some people had to wait several hours to test the Facebook metaverse …
The Vivatech show with Web3 sauce
Vivatech, presented for the first time in 2016, has become the unmissable meeting point of the global technological elite. Each year, the exhibition highlights new technologies and innovations by inviting the best companies in their fields.
For this sixth edition, Vivatech honored the blockchain world by inviting big names in the crypto ecosystem to headline.
Thus, industry professionals were able to attend the (remote) interventions of Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, the second cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin, on 15 and 16 June. The Russian entrepreneur took the opportunity to spread and develop the different uses of the blockchain in different sectors.
Typically, when we hear blockchain and web3, the metaverse is never far away …
LVMH, which intends to permanently install its products and services in the virtual world, has the largest booth at the fair. In particular, the group presents “different applications of the uses of the metaverse for the world of luxury, also through its new virtual muse, Livi, who will be the spokesperson for the Group’s innovations”.
But the group isn’t the only one offering the metaverse to Vivatech …
In fact, META, one of the leaders in the sector, is also present with a stand dedicated to its virtual world Horizon.
A stand that is enjoying great success since the queue was 5 hours to participate in an activity in the metaverse this Thursday 15 June.
While the show was reserved for professionals only, one wonders how much waiting time is needed when it opens to the general public?
You are surely wondering which generalissimo activity requires 5 hours of waiting … A roller coaster in the metaverse? No, an augmented reality meeting.
For Vivatech 2022, in fact, Mark Zukerberg’s company offers the opportunity to participate in a virtual meeting in the metaverse of Horizon Workrooms.
The company has provided for the occasion a range of Oculus Quest 2 headphones that will catapult you directly into the professional world of tomorrow.
So if you don’t have 5 hours to dedicate to a virtual meeting, put on your Oculus, we teleport you into the world of work of the future.
First, using your controller, choose the setting for the meeting of your dreams: a paradise beach, a chalet in the mountains, the forest….
Then comes the choice of your cartoon character’s avatar.
Once your character has been created, you sit with your colleagues around a 3D virtual meeting table.
When you interact alone at home, your avatar reproduces your movements and facial expression quite faithfully in the virtual world.
Thanks to the spatialization of the sound, each interlocutor is audible, but with a variability of sound power depending on their position on the meeting table. A neighbor who whispers to you “what shall we eat for lunch? it won’t be heard throughout the virtual room, fortunately … This feature will make exchanges more spontaneous according to Antoine Bordes, the director of AI at Meta.
Finally, to take notes in this virtual world, you can use a word processing software directly integrated into the interface, but also let yourself be tempted by the virtual pen that reproduces the movement quite reliably, thanks to the “hand tracing” of hand and fingers .
End of the meeting …
META is already well done and promising.
While not everyone has a virtual reality headset at home, at this stage of development the tool would have been very useful in the context of the confinements of a few years ago.
