Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, timestamp and transaction data.

Bitcoin nodes use the blockchain to differentiate legitimate Bitcoin transactions from attempts to resend coins that have already been spent elsewhere.

Cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin rely on a decentralized network of computers, each of which keeps a record of all transactions. The blockchain is a shared public ledger on which all transactions are recorded.

When someone wants to buy or sell bitcoins, they create a transaction. This transaction is then broadcast over the network and verified by the nodes. Once verified, it is added to the blockchain. The blocks are concatenated, with each block containing a hash of the previous block.
