Which studies to work in NFT, cryptocurrencies and metaverse?

The areas of cryptocurrency, NFTs and the metaverse have become important. And the job prospects are promising. What studies do you need to do to work in these fields?

The bitcoin crack last May obviously scared investors. However, the question of pursuing a crypto finance education seems less and less absurd as these virtual currencies are now well established. And the question also arises for NFTs, these certificates that attest to the value of a virtual asset. In March 2021, a digital artwork was sold for $ 69.3 million at Christie’s. As for the metaverse, Facebook (Meta) announced in October 2021 that it would hire 10,000 highly skilled profiles in Europe to build its metaverse.

Studies in engineering or business school

Is specific training required? Very often, the Grandes Ecoles offer accessible training at bac +3. This can be a specialized master’s degree or courses as part of a metaverse, cryptocurrency or NFT oriented to PGE (grande école program). “The design aspect, artificial intelligence, machine learning or even coding, is addressed in the engineering school, where students are trained and prepared for the implementation of these new technologies in digital engineering”, explains François Stéphan, director of the ECE. Esilv also offers a specialization in fintech. The university is no exception. Since 2019, the Sorbonne offers a master’s degree in financial technology data.

For their part, business schools have for several years been offering courses in digital finance, called “fintech”, where the concepts of cryptocurrency, blockchain, big data, and their applications in the banking and stock exchange sector are taught. . “The objectives pursued are quite simple: to prepare our young people for this new commercial facet of the world of work, to provide them with technical skills that allow them to collaborate with engineers and, of course, encourage them to entrepreneurship” details Nathalie Janson, cryptocurrency specialist and professor at Neoma.

Facebook creates its school with Sempione

Recently, however, schools dedicated 100% to these sectors are emerging. We can cite for example the opening in September 2022 of the Metaverse College. Belonging to the College of Paris, the establishment located in La Défense aims to train the developers, project managers and meta designers of tomorrow. For its founder and director, Ridouan Abagri, the school is a “bet on the future, while France remains the cradle of the metaverse”. The school offers a curriculum starting from the 3rd year and focuses on applications of the metaverse in the current professional landscape: AI, the luxury market and digital marketing, data science or even meta-heritage. As for Meta, the Facebook group announced in June the launch of a “metaverse academy” in France for an opening scheduled for the beginning of the 2022 school year with the Simplon code school. The school hopes to recruit 30% of the women without graduation conditions.

In schools, entrepreneurs are also at the starting blocks. Clément Fagette, 22, is an engineering student at Ecole Mines-Nancy and co-founder with David Fereres of the Deep-Future collective. This project, whose activity consists in creating works of art in a procedural way and then converting them into NFT, thanks to the support and funding of the school. “Even if these issues may still be the subject of doubts and distrust, the school has been listening”says Clemente.

Opportunities in all sectors

In terms of outlets, there is a lot to do. According to François Stephan, these new technologies are “the engineering of the 21st century”. Whether it is finance, art or digital marketing, whether in a start-up or in a large group, these skills are increasingly in demand. So we recruit developers, meta designers and data architects from all over the place. And this is only the beginning. “We will gradually integrate NFTs into everyday utility,” says Clément Fagette. “Bitcoin was a real revolution in the global financial system,” adds Nathalie Janson. Especially since we will find NFTs, metaverses and cryptocurrencies in increasingly different fields: in the real estate sector with the use of “digital twins”, in administration through virtual identity documents and guaranteed by blockchain, or even through supplies of all kinds, where The authenticity and compliance with certain criteria of the goods can be verified in the form of NFT.
