Investors, collectors, players…, So many people interested in NFTs. Governments also seem to be seduced by the concept of non-fungible tokens. This is the case of Japan, which used it to reward local authorities who have managed to solve local problems with digital technology.

7 NFT award-winning Japanese mayors

According to Cointelegraph, the Japanese government presented NFT awards to 7 mayors in recognition of their efforts to make life easier in their respective municipalities. The criteria for awarding these awards were not based solely on this type of success. In fact, to get these awards, they had to use digital technology and also contribute to the development of the digital economy in their respective municipalities.

The presentation of these NFTs was held during the ceremony ” Digi Denkoshien summer 2022 “. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida attended.

Among the winners, the mayor of Sakata, a municipality located in the prefecture of Yamagata. Why did the Japanese government award him this NFT award? Because the city of Sakata is overflowing with local development ideas focused on the digital economy. His plan to use electric vehicles for local deliveries captivated the jury.

The mayor of Maebashi, a town located in Gunma prefecture, was also awarded by NFT. The authenticity of him lies in its platform for real-time monitoring of changing traffic conditions with the cameras of mobile devices.

Japan passionate about Web 3 and NFT

Of course, the Empire of the Rising Sun has not yet gone through the box of “legalization of bitcoin”. But its rulers don’t seem reluctant to any form of cryptocurrency-related investment. This has prompted companies like Ripple to want to establish themselves in the region.

In Japan, although people are not very interested in CBDC, they love metaverse games, NFTs and other WEB 3.0 related projects. The current Prime Minister has also been quick to show interest in non-fungible tokens in the past.

This is certainly the reason that prompted the Japanese government to challenge Hazama Base to create its NFTs of excellence to reward bold and innovative mayors. Note that these non-fungible, technology-based tokens Proof of attendance protocol (POAP) and issued on Ethereum, have been the subject of mint on channel xDai. They are intended only for exclusive events such as the ceremony ” Digi Denkoshien summer 2022 »And therefore cannot be sold or sold.
