News hardware Participating in the Ballon d’Or ceremony thanks to an NFT is possible!
If you have dreamed of meeting football stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappe, Messi and many others, surely you can do it thanks to an NFT. L’Équipe group has launched a collection of non-fungible tokens that offer multiple privileges to football fans.
L’Équipe enters the Web3 universe with the Golden Ball
The long-awaited ceremony of the 66th Golden Ball will take place on 17 October. The event that awards the best player of the year will take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. On the occasion of this new edition, the media group L’Équipe has created a first collection of NFTs in honor of the trophy.
As usual for non-fungible token collections, each NFT will offer multiple benefits to its owner:
“The owners of these 2,022 NFTs will receive preview information, in the form of newsletters or video content, and will be able to participate in competitions,” explains Émilie Montané, director of strategy and development at L’Équipe, in Figaro.
Football fans will not be the only ones to benefit from this initiative. In fact, players who have won the 2022 Ballon d’Or will be able to receive a virtual double in NFT of their trophy.
Furthermore, with these NFTs, holders will be able to request exclusive NFT cards for this edition of the Ballon d’Or on the Sorare play-to-earn game.
But that is not all…
An NFT that looks like a golden ticket
Very private, the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony is generally accessible on television to mere mortals. Only this year, if you are a football fan, you could access this exclusive event thanks to web3.
Thanks to the collaboration with France Football, the magazine behind the Golden Ball, L’Équipe will allow NFT holders to access this event. The collection designed by Léo Caillard will be on sale four times:
- 12 September: 3 NFTs give access to the 2022 Ballon d’Or awards ceremony
- September 15: 3 more 3D tokens to access the Ballon d’Or ceremony as a VIP
- 23 October and 24 October: 2,022 NFT “Pyrite Fragments” which allow numerous advantages, including the possibility of participating in the Golden Ball award ceremony for 20 years.
- November 8: 2 unique NFTs giving access to the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony
The 2,022 “Pyrite Fragments” NFTs will be sold at a price of € 199 each for the first sale in Early Access, the rest will be listed the following day at a price of € 249. Other editions will be auctioned. Part of the profits from these NFT sales will be donated to Fondaction L’Équipe, a solidarity structure that promotes accessibility to sports activities.
This sale confirms the interest of the sports sector for web3. Although the NFT industry has seen its sales plummet lately, it appears that they are becoming more democratized in some areas, such as football, as evidenced by the numerous player and club initiatives towards web3 this year.
