News hardware A bought coffee, an NFT offered. Introducing the new Starbucks loyalty program
While most of the large companies of this world have already invested heavily in the web3 sector and its uses for several months, there are still some laggards. Starbucks recently announced that it is embarking on the NFT adventure through a loyalty system enhanced with non-fungible tokens.
Starbucks launches into NFTs
Although the commitment around NFT is lower today than at the beginning of the year, several companies and large retailers continue to build projects on this new technology. In this sense, we have seen giants from various sectors such as Monoprix, GameStop and Facebook enter the world of NFTs.
This time around, it’s the turn of a legendary coffee brand to put this technology to good use.
On Monday, Starbucks officially announced the launch of a new NFT-style loyalty program. Presented as a platform, “Starbucks Odyseey” is in a sense an evolution of the current web3 version of the “Starbucks Rewards Collection” loyalty system.
A Starbucks loyalty program enhanced with NFT
“Starbucks Rewards Collection” is a rather classic loyalty program that rewards members with stars after a purchase at a Starbucks store. These stars can then be used to get free Starbucks coffee or other products.
The new “Starbucks Odyseey” program will resume the main lines of the old system, only this new project will be based on the blockchain and non-fungible tokens (NFT). So, with this new loyalty program, Starbucks fans will be able to earn NFT stamps if they are loyal enough.
“The new Starbucks Odyssey experience will offer members the opportunity to earn and purchase Collectible Digital Stamps (NFTs) that will unlock access to engaging new coffee experiences,” Starbucks said in a statement.
Among the benefits of NFTs, some members will be able to:
- Access online tutorials for making an espresso martini
- Be invited to exclusive Starbucks Reserve Roasteries events
- Request a trip to Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia Farm in Costa Rica
More than just a loyalty program, a true NFT market
For its first web3 initiative, through its Starbucks Odyssey project, the American coffee brand wants to build something more than a simple loyalty program. In this logic, the company intends to offer an online platform dedicated to its NFTs.
The Starbucks Odyssey platform based on the Polygon network and its cryptocurrency MATIC will allow you to buy, sell and trade NFTs at a lower cost. To democratize NFTs, program members will not need a crypto wallet but a simple bank card.
“By integrating with the Starbucks Rewards ecosystem and anchoring the experience in coffee, connection and community, we are entering the Web3 space unlike any other brand, as we deepen our members’ connection to Starbucks. Our vision is to create a place where our digital community can meet over coffee, participate in immersive experiences and celebrate Starbucks’ legacy and future. Says Rosalind Brewer, Starbucks Chief Operating Officer.
Through this web3 project, Starbucks wants to establish itself as a pioneer in its sector. With this extraordinary NFT awards program, the brand demonstrates innovative uses based on blockchain technology.
