Great admirer of Radio Radio, do you dream of being on the guest list for all your upcoming concerts? This is possible because the duo has just launched their first collection of NFT musical works. (non-fungible token: non-fungible token *; see end of article). For example, for an NFT worth $ 500, 20 fans will have exclusive access to the group’s concerts outside of festivals.
The Acadian group Radio Radio has always had a penchant for new technologies. So he took advantage of the song’s release Bitcoin Blow Up (from his latest album, à la carte) to announce his musical project related to NFT. At the same time, Radio Radio offers the first NFT-related music products created by an Acadian and Francophone artist or group in Canada.
The “future of music”
“This NFT collection was designed for the great Radio Radio fans, explains Gabriel Louis Bernard Malenfant, half of the Radio Radio duo. For us it is a way to communicate with the fans and for them it is a way to obtain something unique, because we agree that when everyone has something, its value decreases. “
An NFT work is accompanied by a digital ownership certificate that guarantees its authenticity, which gives it all its value and exclusive appearance. For Radio Radio fans, this NFT collection offers buyers digital ownership certification and unique experiences with the band.
The Nova Scotia and New Brunswick duo offer three NFT works to their audiences. The cheapest ($ 500) bronze level opera allows only 20 buyers to be on the guest list of all upcoming Radio Radio shows (excluding festival shows).
Do you want more? For $ 10,000, just one person will be able to get the silver-level work – a 90-minute private radio show at the venue of your choice. You will become, in the same way and digitally, the sole owner of this work.
The gold-level opera – which costs $ 11,000 – is an original song by the band inspired by the buyer’s digital tracks (Instagram photos, Facebook statuses, and Google searches). The buyer (a private individual, a company, a hockey club, anything is possible!) Will own 100% of the rights to the song’s master tapes, which will guarantee lifetime revenues for the airing of the piece, which can be played on the radio.
“It’s an original way to make money for artists who are losing money, it must be said, with Spotify of this world,” adds the singer, who has long enjoyed the stock market and cryptocurrencies. It is a way to restore power to the artist. With web 2.0 where anyone can download or copy anything, the advantage when purchasing an NFT work is that the work becomes identifiable as yours. It’s the future of music “.
The group says they want to continue in this direction and it is certain that other artists here will follow suit. “We are already a small community that talks about it among us. We are also available to new buyers to facilitate digital purchases on our platform ”.
Examples outside of Quebec
NFT technology is experiencing strong growth in the United States. NFTs are based on works of art, cinema, video games, and recently have even flirted with literature. In music, NFTs can influence audio recordings, show tickets, and other unique works or events. According to Reuters and Billboard, NFTs generated global revenue of $ 25 billion in 2021, up from just $ 94.9 million a year earlier.
Several international artists have recently been interested, including The Weeknd, Muse, Grimes and Shawn Mendes. US band Kings of Leon, for example, offered an NFT version of their latest album that included special perks (limited edition vinyl, front row seats for future gigs, etc.). Shortly after him, electronic dance artist Justin Blau (3LAU) sold his album ultraviolet under a collection of 33 different NFTs, earning him $ 11.7 million.
Session on death row vol. 2, The debut album by hip-hop icon NFT by Snoop Dogg sold for a total of 100 EtherETH (a popular cryptocurrency), or around $ 300,000.
Canadian singer Shawn Mendes has teamed up with technology company avatar Genies to launch an NFT based on his latest album, Marvelous. The sales volume of its autographed guitars, jackets, T-shirts and other digital items offered on OpenSea (an NFT marketplace) is said to be $ 10 million.
Although Radio Radio has placed high hopes on its NFT-related music products, it had not yet sold one of the packages suggested to its admirers.
What is NFT?
* NFT stands for “non-fungible token” or, more simply, a unique and non-reproducible digital collector’s item. A bitcoin, for example, corresponds to a token and there can be several bitcoins of equivalent value. An NFT differs from a token belonging to a cryptocurrency in that it is unique. Guarantees the exclusive ownership of a digital asset. The purchaser of an NFT-related music product will be the sole owner.
