The tourism recovery rate reached 80% at the end of October 2022 in Morocco, surpassing the world level, which stands at 70%, said Fatim-Zahra Ammor, minister of tourism, handicrafts and social economy and united.
Fatim-Zahra Ammor, who answered a question on tourism promotion strategy, during an oral question session in the House of Councilors, indicated that the recovery rate of foreign currency tourism receipts had risen to 103% in late September. compared to its level in 2019, i.e. before the Covid-19 crisis.
As far as domestic tourism is concerned, receipts have increased significantly, he explained, adding that the number of overnight stays, for their part, reached 45% at the end of September against 30% before the crisis.
This good performance of the tourism sector is the result of the effective management of the Covid-19 crisis by the Kingdom, thus strengthening Morocco’s credibility on an international scale.
They are also the result of the support dedicated by the State to the sector in the context of the emergency plan, of the marketing operations, promotion and guarantee of some places for national tourist destinations, as well as of the adhesion of professionals and partners of the sector.
The minister also recalled the mobilization of a budget of 2 billion dirhams (MMDH) in support of the tourism sector, of which 1 billion dirhams is dedicated to the rehabilitation of hotel units, specifying that this initiative “has had a positive impact on the sector ” .
Furthermore, Fatim-Zahra Ammor announced that 40,000 employees in the sector benefited from an extension of the granting of the check (2,000 dirhams) during the first three months of the year 2022, underlining that the same number of employees benefited from the payment deferral of contributions due to the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) for a period of 6 months.
As regards the postponement of the repayment of bank loans with payment of interest during the period of suspension from work, the minister indicated that there were 821 requests, while the Ministry received 1,345 requests, relating to the operating tax of tourist accommodation facilities .
Fatim-Zahra Ammor also announced that 737 accommodation facilities have benefited from the ministry’s support to reopen their doors to tourists and welcome them in the best conditions, with a total subsidy estimated at 868 million dirhams (MDH).
On the other hand, the minister said that rural tourism is experiencing an increase in demand from both foreign and Moroccan tourists, assuring that the Kingdom has great potential in this area, in the different regions of Morocco. The minister also explained that the ministry’s work has focused on two main areas: the development of studies and the implementation of programs to improve the tourism potential of the rural world, through the Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering (SMIT), in consultation with local partners, then the creation of partnerships with the various actors for the implementation of these programs.
